Rojava University students demand recognition of their university degrees

A number of students from the Petrochemical College at Rojava University, in Qamishlo city in al-azira region, demanded the recognition of the university's degrees and the preservation of their years of study, in addition to the establishment of the Kurdish language and its recognition in the new Syrian constitution, affirming that the language represents the identity and existence of the Kurdish people.

In this context, fourth-year student Helen Ibrahim said that all members of the Kurdish people should demand the establishment of the Kurdish language in the new Syrian constitution, along with the recognition of degrees from Rojava universities, as they came thanks to the sacrifices of the martyrs.

Helen added, "Students today study in Kurdish thanks to the blood of the martyrs, so we must defend the Kurdish language, as it is a matter of existence and identity in society."

For her part, fourth-year student Miraf Issa confirmed that "learning in Kurdish is a legitimate right, and the Kurdish people have the right to have their language recognized in the new Syrian constitution."

Miraf pointed out that "the language represents culture and existence, and the university and education in Kurdish were achieved thanks to the sacrifices of thousands of martyrs, so this gain must be preserved."

For her part, student Lavin Batal said, "We have been studying the Kurdish language since elementary school, and the interim government should recognize university degrees and the Kurdish language within the Syrian constitution."

Lavin concluded her speech by affirming that the presence of the Kurdish language should include schools and universities, in addition to giving it greater importance within cultural and media institutions in the new Syria.
