Residents protest killing of two brothers in Hama countryside

Residents of the town of Baysin in the Hama countryside staged a sit-in in front of the mourning tent for two brothers who were shot dead by armed assailants, condemning the growing state of security chaos and the lack of seriousness shown by the transitional government in pursuing perpetrators of crimes and violations and bringing them to justice.

The town of Baysin in the rural area of Masyaf, west of Hama, witnessed a peaceful sit-in today in front of the mourning tent for two brothers who were killed yesterday by gunfire from unidentified armed men.

ANHA correspondent reported that participants raised banners calling for an end to the “cycle of killings” and for putting a stop to the proliferation of uncontrolled weapons in the area. They urged the relevant authorities to pursue the perpetrators and bring them before the courts, noting that the continued occurrence of crimes driven by sectarian and retaliatory motives confirms the lack of seriousness of the transitional government in chasing down offenders and holding them accountable.

The sit-in came as an expression of the town’s residents’ anger over the crime and as a reaffirmation of the need to strengthen security, provide protection for civilians, and end the state of lawlessness prevailing in the area and in other regions under the control of the transitional government in Syria.
