The head of the Supreme Alawite Islamic Council in Syria and the diaspora, Sheikh Ghazal Ghazal, said in a video statement today that systematic killings and violations against members of the Alawite sect have reached a level that can no longer be tolerated.

He noted that they have chosen complete peacefulness and self-restraint despite all provocations and violations.

He called for an end to “all criminal acts,” demanded a halt to the targeting of civilians in Deir Baabda in the countryside of Jableh, and called for an immediate withdrawal from the area, holding the transitional government directly responsible for any escalation, chaos, or any upcoming internal fighting it seeks.

Sheikh Ghazal directed an appeal to the international community to assume its legal, humanitarian, and moral responsibilities toward what the Alawite community is facing.

He said that if these crimes and violations are not stopped, they will take to the streets with bare chests to defend their right to life, calling for international intervention to protect them and for opening a political process that guarantees the dignity of the Alawite community, affirming that the path to this lies through a decentralized federal political system.
