Residents of Garkê Legê demand physical freedom for leader Ocalan

Amid the worsening health condition of leader Ocalan, according to what was revealed by his brother, Mohammed Ocalan, who visited him a few days ago in Imrali Prison, voices are rising to demand an end to the policies of isolation and violations he faces. They stressed that the current prison conditions are not compatible with his age and health condition, and that his continued detention exacerbates the risks threatening his life.

In this context, several residents of Karqi Laki spoke to our agency. Citizen Asmaa Sami said: “The passing of 27 years since the leader’s imprisonment in Imrali Prison is enough to prove that what he is subjected to is no longer merely detention, but a systematic policy aimed at isolating him from the world and depriving him of his most basic human rights.”

She explained that the reports regarding his health condition are alarming, stressing that the prison conditions are extremely unsuitable for him, especially given his advanced age and deteriorating health, noting that the continuation of these conditions poses a real danger to his life.

Asmaa Sami called on the international community and human rights organizations to take immediate action and exert pressure to end the isolation and achieve the leader’s physical freedom, adding that silence regarding what is happening amounts to complicity in ongoing violations.

For his part, citizen Hazin Abu Zaid stated that the continued detention of Abdullah Öcalan for all these long years constitutes a blatant violation of all international human rights conventions.

He said that keeping the leader in Imrali Prison for 27 years, under strict isolation and deprivation of communication, reflects the scale of policies targeting his will and life.

He affirmed that the current prison conditions directly threaten his life.

He added: “What is required today is not only to talk about his suffering, but practical action by states and international organizations to compel the Turkish authorities to respect his rights, end the imposed isolation, and release him.”

In turn, citizen Asima Ali indicated that the issue of leade Abdullah Ocalan is no longer the issue of one individual, but the issue of a people demanding freedom and justice.

She said that what the leader has endured inside Imrali Prison for 27 years contradicts all human values, especially in light of circulating information about the deterioration of his health.

Asima Ali concluded by emphasizing that achieving the leader’s physical freedom has become an urgent necessity, as his life is at risk due to detention conditions unsuitable for his age.
