Residents of Derik continue patrols to protect city

Residents of Derik, in al-Jazira Canton of Rojava, affirmed their support for the Syrian Democratic Forces and their commitment to fulfilling their national duty to defend the land without hesitation. Youth, women and men of all ages have taken up arms in support of Rojava and to assert their presence.

Omar Hussein, one of the civilians taking part in the patrols, said: “Today is a day to prove our existence and Kurdish identity in Rojava. We will confront the enemy and will not allow it to interfere in our regions.”

He added that the Kurdish people have united across all parts of Kurdistan and around the world to protect Rojava: “We will not deviate from the path of the martyrs… All of us, from Derik and the villages of Khojarat and Berav, carry out daily patrols in our neighborhoods, and we will not allow any danger, attackers, or saboteurs to approach our areas.”

For her part, patrol member Jihan Bada noted that they form a support base for the Syrian Democratic Forces and the People’s and Women’s Protection Units( YPG, YPJ), and she saluted the resistance of the people in besieged Kobani.

She stressed that they stay up at night in the streets and neighborhoods to protect the dignity of the Kurdish people and will not allow any party to attack Rojava.

Meanwhile, Khurshid Youssef, who is on patrol in his neighborhood, said that victory would be theirs through the Kurdish people taking up arms and confronting all threats facing them.

He pointed out that he carries out daily patrols to protect his people from attacks by mercenaries of the interim government.
