Residents: Leader’s call; PKK decisions are step toward peace

Popular responses supporting the peace call and democratic society launched by Leader Abdullah Ocalan, as well as the PKK’s acceptance of this call and subsequent measures, continue. The latest of these actions was a group of guerrilla leaders and fighters symbolically burning their weapons to affirm their adherence to the leader’s call.

In this context, citizen Ahmed al-Abdo said that Ocalan’s call came at a sensitive time when wars and conflicts are intensifying worldwide. He noted that the PKK’s decision to burn weapons signifies a transition to political struggle.

Al-Abdo pointed out that some parties claim that the PKK’s burning of weapons is a defeat for the party, adding, “These are incorrect notions; the party was founded on the principle of struggle for equality and the freedom of people.”

He affirmed that the peace initiative presented by Leader Abdullah Ocalan is the greatest victory for the leader and the PKK.

For her part, citizen Sajida Hassan confirmed that the PKK took the right path by responding to Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s call for peace and a democratic society.

She noted that the party’s action of burning weapons is a correct step to block the paths used by oppressive authorities’ policies and justifications for exterminating peoples.

Describing this step as a historic victory, she said the leader’s call is the solution for transitioning to a lawful political phase aimed at political resolution rather than through wars and conflicts.

Meanwhile, citizen Mohammad al-Abd pointed out that burning the weapons was in response to Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s call to begin a new era free of wars, considering this step very important as a correct move toward peace.

In conclusion, the residents of al-Hol city emphasized that this step by the PKK and Leader Abdullah Ocalan must be met with similar steps by the Turkish state, which until now has not taken any measures toward peace.
