Religious figures urge Syrians to reject discord and preserve social cohesion

Efforts to stir sectarian tensions and spread discord among the Syrian people have increasingly come to the fore. In this context, several religious figures spoke to ANHA agency.

Ali Khalil, an administrator in the Democratic Islamic Council in al-Darbasiyah, called on all components of Syrian society to strengthen their unity and cohesion in the face of attempts to divide and fragment the country.

He stressed the need to put aside internal disputes to safeguard Syria, stating:

"We want to build brotherhood among the people and eliminate discord and hatred. We must act wisely to preserve stability and security within society, reject sectarian strife, and avoid sliding into civil war and chaos."

Kholoud Sheikh, head of the Women’s Office in the Ahl al-Bayt Association, affirmed: "We stand against hatred, chaos, and the creation of hostility among Syrian communities. Our vision for a new Syria, politically and religiously, rejects hatred and division. We want the components of society to live together in peace and transform hostility into brotherhood."

Mohammed Ali, co-chair of the Democratic Islamic Conference Council in Hasaka, explained that all communities and sects of North and East Syria live together without major problems. He continued:

"We must avoid hate speech and hostility in order to entrench peace and mutual affection in society."

He further stressed the need to reject discord, adding:"We should not be swayed by the discourse spread on social media, as the enemy seeks to fuel strife among the peoples of North and East Syria. In confronting this, we must remain vigilant and cautious, and not be drawn into such rhetoric. All components must unite for the sake of Syria, to build the homeland for all Syrians."
