Reactivation of Allouk Water Station under coordination with Red Cross, UNICEF

In a statement to ANHA agency, Al-Ghazi revealed that coordination is ongoing to restore the operation of Allouk station in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross and UNICEF, with the aim of bringing the facility back into service.

He confirmed that coordination continues to overcome technical and logistical challenges, while actual work inside the station has not yet begun, explaining that current steps are limited to coordination and technical and logistical arrangements.

He added that several procedures related to procurement and securing access to Alouk station are being intensively pursued to ensure the completion of the requirements necessary for restarting the facility.

Al-Ghazi concluded his remarks by expressing optimism about achieving tangible progress within the next two weeks, with expectations that the station may witness positive steps very soon toward reactivation.

He did not specify a date for the start of handover or maintenance work inside the station, nor a date for its full reactivation.

Ongoing water crisis since 2019

The water crisis in the city of Hasakah and its countryside continues, as more than one million residents are still living without regular drinking water, years after Allouk Water Station completely stopped operating.

The roots of the crisis date back to October 9, 2019, when the Turkish army and its affiliated armed groups launched an attack on the city of Sere Kaniye, which led to the shelling of Allouk station and the suspension of water pumping toward Hasakah.

Despite repeated meetings between Hasakah Governor Nour al-Din Ahmad, UNICEF representatives, and officials from the Syrian Interim Government, and despite calls to reactivate the station and implement the provisions of the January 29 agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Interim Government, the crisis remains unresolved.
