Raqqa residents reaffirm hope for unified Syria

The people of Raqqa Canton expressed their feelings on the first anniversary of the fall of the Baath regime, describing it as a pivotal moment in Syria’s modern history.

Ibrahim Al-Sheikh described the anniversary as “a cherished memory that no free Syrian will ever forget,” noting that the former regime was “a nightmare that weighed on Syrians' chests for more than 54 years.”

He added that his greatest wish is to see Syria “unified from south to north, and from east to west.”

For his part, Khaled Al-Khattab stressed that Syrians are “one people, not divided by components or sects,” affirming that security, stability, and easing economic burdens are today’s most urgent demands.

Al-Khattab noted that Syrians had lived for decades as one family, and that the country’s fragmentation was the result of the former regime’s policies, stressing that everyone is now looking forward to a new phase defined by national unity.

Ahmed Al-Aziz asserted that the anniversary of the regime’s fall represents for him “the end of a harsh and unjust rule that was a nightmare for the Syrian people.” He added, “My wish is for Syria to remain united, and for all Syrians to live together without discrimination.”

Zaid Al-Jandali stated that “the former regime’s years brought displacement, youth arrests, and killings,” pointing out that his brother was among the victims of Sednaya Prison.

Mustafa Al-Mustafa emphasized “the importance of political understandings among the various Syrian forces,” considering any agreement that ensures the country’s unity and stability “a step in the right direction.”

Residents expressed hope that the coming years will bring more security, improvements in living conditions, and a return to normal life for all Syrians.
