PYD women’s council condemns life sentence against fighter Çiçek Kobanê

The Women's Council of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Girkê Legê has condemned the life sentence handed down by the Turkish state against fighter Çiçek Kobanê. Asserting that this decision is part of ongoing violations targeting women and female activists, the Council called upon human rights organizations and the international community to take action and exert pressure to secure her release.

The Women's Council of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in the city of Girkê Legê issued a statement today condemning the life imprisonment sentence handed down by the Turkish state against fighter Çiçek Kobanê.

The statement was read out in front of the party’s office in the city by Salma Ibrahim, an administrator with the party's Women's Council.

The statement noted: "Fighter Darjin—known bu 'Çiçek Kobanê'—served in the medical unit of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ), operating under the banner of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). She was captured while wounded during the attack on Girê Spî (Tel Abyad) and subsequently transferred illegally across the Syrian-Turkish border into Turkish territory. There, she stood trial before the Turkish judiciary in March 2021 and was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment; the Turkish state later upheld this verdict on July 24, 2026."

The statement affirmed that the PYD Women's Council condemns and denounces the court's decision. It called upon the international community, human rights organizations, and the United Nations to stand with fighter Çiçek Kobanê, advocate for her in international forums, and pressure the Turkish government to secure her release.
