65,000 dunums of farmland destroyed by fires during harvest season in Hasakah

The Directorate of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in Hasakah has announced that fires during this year's harvest season destroyed approximately 65,000 dunums of agricultural land, the majority of it planted with wheat, according to the final damage assessment.

The Hasakah Directorate of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform has revealed that fires during this year's harvest season destroyed approximately 65,000 dunums of farmland, including 61,000 dunums planted with wheat and 4,000 dunums cultivated with barley.

According to the Directorate, the majority of the fires occurred in the areas of Zarkan, Darbasiyah, and Amuda. It confirmed that the assessment of the damage has been completed, while noting that existing legislation does not provide compensation for crop losses caused by harvest fires. The Directorate added that efforts are continuing in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and international organisations to secure assistance for affected farmers.

Earlier this month, the Hasakah Directorate of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform announced the completion of the harvest season across the governorate, covering a total cultivated area of 776,200 hectares of wheat, barley, and lentils.
