Public mourning declared in Iran, East Kurdistan

The residents in cities of East Kurdistan and Iran declared public mourning for the victims of the recent popular protests, amid threats from Iranian authorities and a ban on holding mourning ceremonies.

The Firat News Agency reported that a public mourning has been declared in cities across East Kurdistan and Iran for the victims of the protests who lost their lives at the hands of Iranian authorities.

Reports indicate that Iranian forces have threatened and assaulted relatives of the victims in several cities. It is also reported that Iran has closed the gates of many cemeteries and deployed forces around them, preventing public mourning ceremonies to be held for the martyrs.

Relatives of the victims are speaking out on social media about threats from Iranian authorities, as they say that many people are being summoned to intelligence offices and threatened, and that large numbers of Iranian forces are stationed in front of citizens' homes.

It is worth mentioning that protests against the injustice and repression of the Iranian authorities began on January 28, 2025, throughout East Kurdistan and Iran.
