Public bakeries in Sweida stopped working due to flour shortage

Public bakeries in Sweida have closed and stopped distributing bread due to a shortage of flour, amid efforts to resume operations as soon as new shipments arrive from relief programs and private donations, given a daily deficit estimated at approximately 120 tons of flour.

Local sources and officials from public bakeries in Sweida city and its countryside informed ANHA agency that all public bakeries have stopped distributing bread due to a shortage of flour. They stated that operations will resume as soon as new shipments of flour arrive in the governorate.

One of the bakery officials explained that since last July, Sweida has been relying on flour allocated by the World Food Programme, in addition to limited quantities received through private donations, which range between 400 and 500 tons weekly, while the daily requirement is approximately 120 tons.

This halt in production comes amid increasing fears of a worsening bread crisis, as residents await the arrival of new shipments to ensure the continued operation of public bakeries and meet the needs of the population, while the siege imposed by the Transitional Government Forces on Sweida continues.
