Protests in Hama against electricity price hikes

A protest was held in the city of Salamiyah in Hama countryside in front of the electricity company headquarters, rejecting the decision to raise electricity tariffs. During the protest, the participants held banners with slogans reflecting their discontent with the decision, such as, "Electricity is our right, not a luxury," and "Electricity prices are high, and our pockets are empty; my salary isn't even enough to light a bulb," demanding the relevant authorities to cancel or reconsider the decision.

The protest witnessed wide participation from residents who expressed their anger at the new financial burdens resulting from the tariff increase.

The decision by the Syrian Interim Government to raise electricity prices, issued on October 31, sparked widespread reactions on the Syrian street and on virtual media, as many people expressed their discontent, while some saw the timing of the decision as reminiscent of previous governments' practices of imposing economic measures that burdened citizens.

This protest comes amid an unprecedented rise in prices, which has increased the cost of living for citizens and prompted them to express their rejection of the recent economic decisions.
