Protests held in Qamishlo over electricity shortages

Dozens of residents and shop owners held a protest in Qamishlo today, demanding urgent solutions to the worsening living crisis in the region, particularly following the suspension of diesel fuel subsidies for essential services.

The protesters held banners calling for improved living conditions and a regular electricity supply. They also condemned the suspension of diesel fuel subsidies for essential services and called for the fuel shortage to be addressed.

Participants chanted slogans urging swift action to address the economic situation, stressing that continued increases in the prices of basic goods, coupled with recurring power outages, have placed a heavy burden on residents, directly affecting their daily lives and causing losses for shop owners and their livelihoods.

A statement was also read during the protest calling for electricity to be provided to the city following the suspension of diesel fuel subsidies for essential services. It also called for improving residents’ living conditions amid soaring prices.

The protest is part of a series of demonstrations taking place in cities across the Jazira, demanding solutions to fuel and electricity shortages, measures to curb rising prices, and improved living conditions for residents.
