Protesters in Tel Tamr block M4 highway amid calls to release prisoners

The families of the detainees, along with residents of Tel Tamr, organized a protest on the M4 international highway, calling for the immediate release of SDF prisoners held by the interim government.

Hundreds of people participated in the protest, including mothers and fathers of detainees, holding banners that read: “We demand the immediate release of the prisoners.”

As the protest escalated, some participants burned tires and blocked the M4 highway, in a protest move aimed at drawing attention to the issue of detainees and pressuring for their swift release.

These actions come within the context of the January 29 agreement between the SDF and the interim Syrian government, which stipulated the implementation of prisoner exchange operations in stages. According to announcements so far, three groups, in the context of the agreement, were carried out on March 10 and 19, and April 11, during which around 800 detainees held by the interim government were released.

During the protest, the mothers of the detainees called for urgent action, stressing that their suffering continues due to the absence of their sons, and that it is time to fully resolve this issue.

The protest concluded with participants emphasizing that they would continue organizing protest activities if their demands are not met, until all detainees are released and the prisoner exchange agreement is fully implemented.
