Dozens of protesters gathered at noon on Tuesday at Peace Square in the city of Hasakah, protesting against deteriorating living conditions, rising fuel prices and a decline in services, particularly the number of hours of electricity supply

Services have deteriorated sharply since administrative powers were transferred to institutions of the Transitional Government, which lifted fuel subsidies, leading to higher prices for many goods whose production depends on diesel.

The protesters held up banners calling for improvements to living and service conditions, foremost among them addressing the electricity shortage. The city of Hasakah currently receives no more than three hours of electricity per day.

One of the protesters held up a banner with, “Electricity for everyone... No to darkness” written on.

The protesters also called on the Transitional Government to reduce fuel prices and transportation fares.
