protest in Homs demanding an end to violence

Today, a protest was held in Homs by several civil society activists demanding protection for residents, accountability for killers, and an end to the chaos caused by widespread uncontrolled weapons.

This demonstration followed a series of deliberate killings, including the murder of a teacher this morning and two young men yesterday, bringing the death toll to three within less than 24 hours all victims of lawless armed groups.

Protesters carried banners reading:

“In these dark days, tears of sorrow mixed with anger in Homs”

“Homs lost a mother and a teacher for her sectarian identity”

“Syrian blood is one, despite those who sow discord”

“Justice and citizenship are shared rights for all”

“Uncontrolled weapons threaten every home and family.”

This protest continued recent demands calling for controlling the spread of random weapons, enforcing the law to guarantee security for every individual, and halting assassinations and killings.

Notably, activist Atab Shaheen participated despite recently being discharged from the hospital, affirming her message: “The free voice is stronger than bullets, and reason will overcome weapons no matter the challenges.”
