Price of fancy bread bundle in Jazira raises

A meeting was held on Monday morning in Hasaka, bringing together the Bakeries Committee of Jazira region and the Premium Bakeries Union in the cities of Qamishlo and Hasaka, to discuss the repercussions of the rising diesel prices and their impact on the price of tourist bread.

The meeting concluded with the approval of a new price for a bundle of fancy bread, set at 5,500 Syrian pounds, up from the previous price of 4,000 pounds. This increase comes amid rising diesel prices for premium bakeries, coupled with the depreciation of the Syrian pound against the dollar, which has exceeded 13,000 pounds. This situation has sparked discontent among bakery owners, prompting them to demand a price review.

In a statement to ANHA agency on the sidelines of the meeting, Rondar Saleh; the co-chair of Jazira region's Bakeries Committee, explained that the rise in the dollar's value has directly impacted production costs.

He pointed out that the price of a liter of diesel has increased from 15 cents to 55 cents, which has led bakery owners to demand an adjustment to the previous prices.

Saleh added that the meeting, held in Hasaka and attended by the Premium Bakeries Union and specialized experts, concluded after studying the costs by setting a new price that balances consumer interests with the continued operation of the bakeries.

He noted that meetings will continue in the coming period to discuss pricing bread in stone bakeries.

He made clear that there are 31 automated premium bakeries in Jazira region, all of which are still operational, and emphasized that the goal of this meeting is to reach a fair price that prevents losses for bakery owners and ensures the availability of bread for citizens.
