Preparations underway for new meetings regarding Qamishlo courthouse file

n the context of the integration process between the Autonomous Administration and the Syrian Interim Government, informed sources indicated that a new series of meetings between the two sides will take place this week. The aim is to continue ongoing discussions and attempt to reach a consensus on the issue of the Qamishlo courthouse, given the continued disagreements on several outstanding points within the January 29 agreement.

According to the sources, these meetings follow intensive efforts in recent weeks, including meetings between a delegation representing Ahmed al-Sharaa, the governor of Hasaka, and the Minister of Justice in the Interim Government. These meetings focused on finding ways to resolve the disputes and unify visions regarding the future of judicial institutions in the regions of NE Syria.

On April 20, a delegation from the Ministry of Justice of the Interim Government visited the courthouse in Qamishlo. Information revealed that the Interim Government delegation sought to impose its conditions by reinstating Ba'athist judges affiliated with the former regime and appointing them to the courthouse. They also demanded that current judges and staff cease their duties and return home, with the understanding that they would later apply for reappointment within the new structure. Furthermore, they demanded the handover of all files and cases related to the residents for their own disposal, a demand that contradicts the agreement of January 29.

The anticipated meetings this week come amidst ongoing discussions regarding various integration issues. Sources close to the matter confirm that the parties are striving to narrow the points of contention and reach final understandings that will ensure the continued operation of the institutions within the framework of the agreement signed by both sides.
