The 12th Sakîne Cansiz Festival will kick off in the Swiss city of Zurich on June 28, at Kasernenareal Square, under the slogan "We will build through women, life, freedom, democratic organization," in remembrance of one of the founders of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, Sakîne Cansiz (Sara).

The Kurdish Women's Movement in Switzerland is organizing the festival, with the participation of many women's organizations. Preparations continue to complete all technical arrangements, supported by six councils, five communes, and five women's initiatives mobilized to back the event.

The preparations are receiving wide engagement, with women visiting homes and shops to invite the public and encourage participation in the festival, in addition to contacting political parties and women's organizations for broader support.

On the artistic level, the list of participating female artists has been confirmed, including Sasa Serap, Gala, Zarifa Zerin, Golan, Slav Roj Ava, and Avaz Mitra, alongside performances by the Arabana (tambourine) band affiliated with the Mazkin Cultural Movement, the women's Dabke troupe, and Kurdish Dabke groups. A tent for women’s folk songs will also be set up, continuing the festival’s annual tradition.

In addition to cultural performances, the festival will include play areas and entertainment platforms for children, as well as food and information stands about various women's organizations, reflecting the festival’s inclusive nature and its aim to provide a rich experience for visitors.

The Sakîne Cansiz Festival is an event that celebrates women's struggle, held in honor of one of the founders of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, Sakîne Cansiz (Sara), who remains a symbol of the fight for women's rights and political freedom.

Sakîne Cansiz was assassinated alongside the representative of the Kurdistan National Congress, Fidan Dogan (Rojbin), and youth movement member Leyla Saymez (Ronahi) in the French capital Paris on January 9, 2013.
