Participants in Tishrin Dam resistance: Our people continue to write epics of heroism, steadfastness

On the first anniversary of the Tishrin Dam resistance, the residents of Ain Issa commemorated those who participated, emphasizing that the event has become an enduring symbol of popular resistance against the barbarity of the Turkish occupation, and a popular victory that left its mark both domestically and internationally.

Sabri Mustafa, one of the participants in the Tishrin Dam resistance, who was wounded in one of the attacks launched by the Turkish occupation army on the dam while on duty, said: "A year has passed since our people's resistance at the Tishrin Dam, and we have proven to the world that we are a living people who will not tolerate injustice, nor will we submit to Turkish barbarity, which has repeatedly tried to destroy the foundations of life.

He added: "The resistance arose in response to the occupier's insistence on imposing the reality of occupation, but our people had a different opinion. To go into danger and confront the occupation was a bold and courageous decision, and our people's will was realized through a legendary resistance that halted the occupier's barbarity and broke its power."

Mustafa recalled the moment he was wounded, saying: "We went to protect the dam from direct shelling, but the occupation targeted us brutally, resulting in martyrs and wounded, and I was injured in my leg as a result."

Sabri Mustafa emphasized that the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries learned a lesson they will never forget: "The will of the people of North and East Syria cannot be broken; it is stronger than their weapons."

For her part, Aziza Mar'i, who also participated in the popular resistance at the dam, pointed to the prominent role of women in this resistance, as they participated alongside young men, elders, and men, adding: "The first martyr of the resistance was a woman, and this is a source of pride for all the women of the region." Aziza Marai added, "The influx of people to the Tishrin Dam aimed to protect the dam and support our defending forces, and ultimately, the awareness and will of our people prevailed."

Zainab Khalil recalled a remarkable humanitarian aspect of those days, saying, "The traditional meals prepared for the resistance fighters were initiated by mothers and women, carrying profound symbolism and offering heartfelt support to their sons."

Zainab Khalil emphasized, "The resistance at the Tishrin Dam will remain etched in our memory. It taught the occupier a lesson they will never forget and proved that our resistant people will continue to write the most magnificent epics of heroism and steadfastness."

After the fall of the Ba'athist regime in Syria at the end of 2014, the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries launched attacks on the region of North and East Syria, intending to occupy it and eliminate the democratic model of self-administration. The Syrian Democratic Forces, the Women's Protection Units, and the Internal Security Forces displayed tremendous resistance there.

On January 8, 2025, the people of the region organized a popular resistance at the Tishrin Dam, where they showed heroic steadfastness in the face of attacks, and wrote in history the most wonderful epics of the revolutionary people’s war, thus thwarting the occupation plans.
