The Women’s Council of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) organized a dialogue seminar on Thursday in the town of Maashouq, in the city of Tirbê Spîyê, under the slogan: “Together to Strengthen Women’s Role in Defense, Politics, and Decision-Making,” with the participation of women from various communities in the city.

The seminar began with a minute of silence in tribute to the souls of the martyrs, followed by a speech from Horriya Shamdin, an administrator at the Women’s Council of the Democratic Union Party, who addressed recent political and military developments in Syria and around the world, as well as their direct implications for the region.

She highlighted the prominent role played by women during the July 19 Revolution, stressing that their active participation in various fields contributed to building a democratic society based on freedom and equality.

The seminar also included a reading of several provisions from previous Syrian constitutions addressing women’s rights, while noting that some of these rights are not included in the draft Syrian constitution announced by the Interim Government in March 2025.

During the discussions, participants stressed the need to draft a new constitution that guarantees the rights of all components of Syrian society, safeguards women’s political and social rights, and strengthens their presence in state institutions and decision-making centers.

The participants also emphasized that the sacrifices made by Syrian women, particularly the fighters of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), in protecting and defending society, require ensuring their active participation in building the new Syria and consolidating their role in political and constitutional life.
