Ongoing mine clearance to secure return for displaced persons

Mine and war-remnant clearance operations are ongoing in the rural areas of Serêkaniyê, Tel Tamer, and Zarkan as part of efforts to secure roads, residential areas, and agricultural lands for the return of displaced persons.

The Hasaka Mine Action Center briefed ANHA agency on its operational map and the latest updates regarding mine clearance activities in the region.

According to the center, work is continuing on the road connecting the villages of Tel al-Ward and Aniq al-Hawa; the clearance of the asphalt road stretching from Tel al-Ward to Aniq al-Hawa has been fully completed. Work is also underway to clear the roadsides—extending 25 meters on each side—with approximately one-quarter of the target area already cleared.

In the western and northern countryside of Tel Tamer, mine clearance operations are proceeding in the villages of Al-Dardara and Umm al-Kif, as part of the ongoing plan to rid these areas of mines and war remnants.

The center indicated that mine clearance teams would begin operations on Sunday in the village of Al-Tawila, in the western countryside of Tel Tamer, continuing the plan to clear mines and secure the targeted areas.

These activities address the ongoing need to clear vast areas of mines and war remnants and to open main roads leading to Serêkaniyê, thereby enhancing the safety of displaced persons returning to their villages and homes.

The Hasaka Mine Action Center urged residents not to return to areas where clearance operations are still in progress and to avoid using roads where mine clearance teams and organizations are active until the clearance process is complete and the area is fully secured, in order to ensure their safety and avoid the dangers posed by mines and war remnants.
