On Anniversary of Hevrin Khalaf’s martyrdom, Future Syria Party calls for justice

As the sixth anniversary of the martyrdom of Hevrin Khalaf, Secretary-General of the Future Syria Party, is commemorated, the women and leaders of the party recalled her struggle, humanitarian spirit, and political positions. They reaffirmed their commitment to continuing her mission to build a democratic, pluralistic Syria governed by peace and stability.

Samira Al-Aziz, a member of the Presidential Council of the Future Syria Party, stated: "Martyr Hevrin Khalaf was among the first women to join the path of the Syrian revolution since 2011. Through her work, she sought to fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, democracy, and coexistence."

She added that she had known Hevrin for many years, as both hailed from the city of Derik: "I knew Hevrin long ago; she was distinguished by her wisdom, calm demeanor, and ability to listen to everyone. She combined intellect and determination and had a clear vision for Syria’s future—based on freedom, equality, and democracy."

Al-Aziz continued: "Her selection as Secretary-General of the Future Syria Party at its founding in 2018 was no coincidence. She was wise, capable of uniting Syrians from all components, and believed in genuine Syrian-Syrian dialogue free from any external interference."

She noted that the party commemorates Hevrin annually through the Festival of Peace, which bears her name, honoring her message that called for justice, equality, and women’s participation in decision-making.

Al-Aziz stressed that Hevrin Khalaf’s assassination will never be erased from Syrians’ memory, saying: "The assassination of Hevrin was not an individual act, but a documented war crime committed by an armed faction backed by the Turkish occupying state. We demand that all perpetrators be held accountable because justice for Hevrin is justice for all Syrian women who struggled for freedom and peace."

Fatima Al-Ali, spokesperson for the Women’s Council in the Future Syria Party, said: "Martyr Hevrin Khalaf was a symbol of the free and conscious woman, and an icon of peace in Syria and the world."

She added: "We learned from Hevrin the values of strength, determination, and freedom of opinion—and how a woman can be a successful politician and leader in her community."

Al-Ali emphasized that Hevrin Khalaf was targeted solely because she called for peace and rejected the logic of war and conflict:

"She raised her voice for peace and unity among Syrians, yet was brutally murdered. What pains us today is seeing those whose hands are stained with her blood in leadership positions. This is not justice for anyone who called for peace and freedom in Syria."

Azab Al-Mustafa, Co-Chair of the Youth Council in the Future Syria Party, stated that Hevrin Khalaf embodied the spirit of struggle, determination, and perseverance for all young Syrian women:

"Hevrin Khalaf was not just a martyr; she was the architect of a humanitarian and revolutionary vision that continues to guide the women of the Future Syria Party. Thanks to her will, we are now more determined to realize her vision of a democratic Syria built on peace."

In conclusion, the party’s women members affirmed that Hevrin Khalaf will remain alive in the hearts of Syrians, and that her message will continue to serve as a beacon guiding all those who struggle for freedom, equality, and the building of a homeland worthy of its sons and daughters’ sacrifices.
