Notables of Aleppo call for immediate end to violence

The statement was issued to public opinion in light of the rocket shelling targeting these neighborhoods, which has resulted in the deaths and injuries of civilians. It was read at Salah al-Din Mosque in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood by Religious Council member Omar al-Shami.

Citing verses from the Holy Qur’an and Prophetic traditions that call for reconciliation and the rejection of infighting, the statement emphasized that the current escalation leads to further bloodshed and threatens security and stability in Aleppo’s neighborhoods. It considered the escalation to be serving external agendas aimed at destabilizing the city and reviving “terrorist” organizations, foremost among them ISIS mercenaries.

The signatories called for an immediate cessation of attacks on civilian neighborhoods, warning that continued violence will not benefit any side, but will result in collective loss, because “Syrians’ blood is one,” bound by fraternity, civil peace, and coexistence.

The statement also appealed to Muslim and Christian religious leaders, as well as tribal and clan elders in Aleppo and across Syria, to intervene to contain the crisis and work to stop the bloodshed. It stressed that internal fighting has no winners and that its catastrophic consequences affect everyone.

The statement underscored the unity of Aleppo’s neighborhoods, describing them as “one body” connected to the heart of Syria. It called for stopping the bleeding among brothers and for creating conditions that would allow displaced people to return to their homes, especially amid the harsh winter weather.

In conclusion, the Council of Tribes and Notables and the Religious Council in Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh, and Bani Zaid declared that they extend their hand to everyone seeking peace and dialogue.
