Newborn baby found abandoned by roadside in Deir ez-Zor countryside

Residents of Muheimidah town in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor found a newborn baby girl abandoned by the roadside on Tuesday, according to eyewitnesses cited by ANHA correspondents. No official information is available so far regarding the girl’s identity or the circumstances surrounding her abandonment.

As of the time of publication, no further details were available about the baby’s health condition. There was also no information on whether her family had been identified or whether an official investigation had been opened into the incident.

The incident comes after similar cases were reported in Deir ez-Zor province in recent years. In February 2024, residents of Muheimidah town itself found a newborn baby girl near Al-Bashir Mosque. On the same day, two other newborn babies were found in the areas of Darbasiyah in Hasakah countryside and Hazima in Raqqa countryside.

In September 2024, a newborn baby was also found abandoned by the roadside in Darnaj town in eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, in another incident highlighting the repeated occurrence of newborn babies being abandoned in various parts of Syria.
