New escalation in Damascus, evacuation warnings within 24 hours

The Al-Sumariyah area in Damascus is witnessing increasing tension after residents received verbal evacuation notices within 24 hours, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

Residents of the neighborhood said that a security official known as “Abu Hudayfah” arrived in the area and informed them that the homes marked in green on the maps would be demolished in the coming hours, triggering widespread fear and panic.

Locals believe these measures are part of systematic pressure aimed at pushing them to leave, amid accusations that the controlling authorities are seeking to impose demographic change by targeting neighborhoods with an Alawite majority.

According to the SOHR, armed groups affiliated with the transitional government in Syria continue to take escalating steps to pressure residents, including searches, summons, and restrictions on movement.

The neighborhood has recently witnessed the construction of a separation wall that encircled Al-Sumariyah entirely, allowing full control over the area’s entrances and severely restricting residents’ movement.

Residents consider this step an indication of efforts to force them to leave under the weight of security and economic pressure.

The people of the neighborhood are living in a state of anxiety that these developments may be a prelude to forced displacement, amid the absence of any official clarification regarding the reasons for the warnings or the fate of dozens of families at risk of losing their homes.
