Narges Mohammadi hospitalized after critical health deterioration

The foundation revealed that Mohammadi, who is detained in an Iranian prison, suffered two episodes of complete loss of consciousness, in addition to a severe heart attack, after fainting twice inside Zanjan Prison.

For his part, her lawyer Mostafa Nili said via X platform that his client lost consciousness on Thursday due to a sharp drop in blood pressure, which necessitated her transfer to hospital and admission to the intensive care unit.

He explained that her condition had experienced severe fluctuations in blood pressure in recent days, along with repeated bouts of fatigue and severe chest pain. He noted that the prison doctor administered intravenous fluids and medication before recommending her immediate transfer.

The lawyer added that Mohammadi had initially refused the emergency transfer, based on prior medical recommendations warning of the risks of receiving treatment in Zanjan hospitals, given her medical history, which includes three catheterization procedures and stent placements.

He noted that the subsequent deterioration in her condition prompted a neurologist to examine her inside the prison, stressing the urgent need to transfer her while prioritizing a neurological evaluation.

These developments come amid growing concerns over healthcare conditions for detainees in Iranian prisons, as reports indicate challenges in providing adequate medical treatment.
