Mohammad Mustafa Mohammad begins duties in Kobani

A few days ago, Mohammad Mustafa Mohammad took over the responsibilities of managing Kobani. Today, he delivered a statement in the city, promising to serve all citizens and act honestly and justly.

The statement said:

“Kobani city and its countryside suffered for many years under the rule of the Baath regime, where various forms of injustice became entrenched, including the general repression that affected all Syrians and the ethnic discrimination that targeted the Kurdish people. Despite this, Kobani did not submit to this reality. It rose up against the regime on March 14, 2004, and also actively participated in the March 2011 protests for freedom and dignity.

During the years of war, Kobani suffered major losses, especially during ISIS attacks on September 15, 2014, which caused the complete displacement of the population and the destruction of about half the city, while the remaining parts suffered severe damage. On June 25, 2015, the city also witnessed a bloody massacre that resulted in hundreds of victims, dead and wounded, in addition to hundreds of missing persons whose fate remains unknown to this day.

With the changes the country witnessed on January 8, 2024, a new phase has emerged, one that is hoped will help build a different Syria based on partnership among all its components. In this context, we affirm our openness to cooperation with relevant parties to launch reconstruction efforts and provide services on the basis of justice and equality, in a way that strengthens stability and serves all citizens without exception.”
