Military sites, neighborhoods in Damascus targeted

Explosions rocked Damascus, Syria, on Saturday, targeting the vicinity of the Presidential Palace, the Mezzeh 86, and Mezzeh Airport, causing widespread panic among residents, while no confirmed reports of casualties or financial damage have emerged.

On Sunday, ANHA correspondents, citing local sources, reported that shells landed near the Presidential Palace, in an area known as "al-Katiba," and in the area between Mezzeh 86 and the Presidential Palace.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights indicated that the explosions coincided with shelling in three locations, "The first was near al-Katiba on the mountain overlooking the Mezzeh 86 district; the second was behind al-Mohamedi Mosque in Mezzeh al-Villat (Villas); an area inhabited by high-ranking figures in the Syrian regime; and the third was near Mezzeh Military Airport."

In turn, media outlets affiliated with the Transitional Government reported that one shell struck the dome of al-Mohamedi Mosque in the Mezzeh al-Villat district, while a second landed on a telecommunications building in the same area, and a third shell landed near Mezzeh Military Airport.

These events come amid a noticeable escalation of lawlessness in areas controlled by the Syrian Transitional Government, where similar targeting incidents have been repeated in multiple neighborhoods during the past period, reflecting the fragility of the security situation and the continued state of anxiety among the residents.
