Sit-in in Iskenderun in solidarity with Alawites in Syria

The residents of the Iskenderun brigade held a sit-in on Saturday near the Yayladagi (Kesab) border crossing with Syria, in solidarity with the Alawites in several Syrian regions and to condemn the ongoing violations against them.

The participants raised banners that called for an end to the violence and killing, emphasizing their solidarity with all Syrian communities affected by the ongoing conflicts, and stressing the importance of protecting civilians.

The protesters expressed their hope for an end to the violence and for peace and freedom to prevail in Syria, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities regarding the situation.

In a related context, a demonstration was held on Saturday in Frankfurt, Germany, by young members of the Alawite community in support of their brethren in Syria and in protest against the violence they are being exposed to.

Videos circulated by activists on social media showed that the demonstration was attacked by supporters of the Syrian Transitional Government, leading to tension at the scene before German police intervention to disperse the clashes.
