Message from journalists: Don't fall into the trap of media war

After the fall of the Ba'ath regime and the current conditions in Syria, the level of discussions and dialogues far from the truth on personal accounts in digital media and media platforms has increased. 

The relevant authorities have often denied those incorrect news reports; however, the false and inciting news that is circulated quickly occupies a prominent place, causing negative effects that weaken the morale of the people.

Regarding this topic, ANHA's agency conducted an interview with journalist Zana Omar from Voice of America (VOA) and journalist Lelya Abdi from Ronahi TV.

Incitement speeches against the Kurds have reached a dangerous level.

In this context, Zana Omar explained that during the past decade of the Syrian crisis, the issue of incitement speeches has noticeably emerged in the media field and continues to this day. He added, "It has now reached a dangerous stage, especially through digital media that increasingly target the Kurds."

Omar pointed out that the attacks through digital media are not random, but deliberately target fighters and representatives of the Kurdish people by spreading false information. He added: "Journalists should not fall into the trap of this malicious news, but should rely on credible sources and learn how to counter incitement speeches."

"Delivering the truth and transparency is the way to confront it."

The role of journalists in conveying the truth is extremely important.

Zana Omar emphasized the importance of strengthening Kurdish unity in Rojava, pointing out the necessity for the Kurdish people to be aware of the dangers of internal incitement speeches. He emphasized the role of Kurdish journalists in countering these attempts, saying: "The role of journalists is fundamental and pivotal." Journalists can effectively confront these attacks by publishing objective and non-inciting views.

 Paid pens to intimidate the people

 For her part, Leyla Abdi pointed out that the intimidation attempts practiced by the occupying Turkish state since the launch of its occupation attacks against the region of North and East Syria, especially against the city of Kobani, rely heavily on hired pens and unreliable media outlets to spread news far from reality. She added that these entities are trying to spread fear among the citizens by disseminating rumors and false information.

 The people must rely on the official institutions in the region.

 Leyla Abdi explained that the special war is primarily conducted through digital media platforms, and emphasized the necessity for the public to be aware of these media outlets.

She concluded her talk by saying: "In this sensitive situation, the people should not rely on all news websites." Rather, the sources of information should be derived from reliable official entities, such as television channels and official agencies that convey news accurately.
