A member of the military police affiliated with the Ministry of Defense in the Syrian interim government was killed, and two others were injured following clashes that erupted early this morning during a security and military operation aimed, according to officials, at arresting a wanted individual in the al-Mreijeh neighborhood of Homs.

Local sources reported that the patrol came under gunfire while attempting to arrest the suspect, which led to clashes in the area.

The confrontations resulted in the death of the officer, Maher al-Akash, who succumbed to his injuries, while the two injured members were transferred to a city hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, security forces deployed additional reinforcements to the neighborhood and established a security presence around the area, alongside search and pursuit operations to locate the shooter and those involved in the clashes.

The incident comes amid an increase in shootings and armed crimes in Homs in recent months, raising concerns among residents about continued security deterioration and prompting calls for stricter security measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.
