Martyrs’ Families slam parliamentary appointments in Syria

A statement was delivered by the Families of Martyrs Council in Tel Tamr at the Martyrs’ Shrine, attended by families of martyrs, members of civil society institutions, and local residents. The statement was read in Arabic by teacher Ayhan al-Younis and in Kurdish by teacher Rudi Rasso.

The statement stressed that “these elections do not reflect the true will of the region’s components, but rather aim to reinforce exclusionary policies that do not align with the aspirations of the peoples of the region,” adding that “the interim government continues to operate with a mentality similar to that of the former Baathist regime.”

It further emphasized that “the Kurds did not receive genuine representation, and the individuals appointed do not represent the Kurdish street or reflect its struggle and sacrifices. This weak representation does not match the scale of sacrifices made by thousands of martyrs in defense of freedom and dignity.”

The council called for clear constitutional recognition of the rights, language, and culture of the Kurdish people, stressing that any political representation not based on real constitutional guarantees remains merely symbolic. It also called for official recognition of the sacrifices made by fighters who confronted “terrorism” in the region.

At the conclusion of the statement, the council urged the people of the region to strengthen unity and uphold the principles of freedom and justice, affirming their commitment to protecting the achievements of the revolution, preserving the blood of the martyrs, and rejecting any party claiming to represent the people without their genuine will.

In Tirbespiyê, the statement was read by Hussein Khaled, an administrator in the Families of Martyrs Council, at the Martyr Delshir Shrine in the village of Dokar.

The statement noted that the will of the Syrian people has consistently remained unrecognized by ruling authorities, and that Syria’s components — especially the Kurdish people — continue to suffer from marginalization and exclusion.

It called for fair and genuine Kurdish representation in parliament and all sovereign institutions in Syria, emphasizing that stability in Syria cannot be achieved without the participation of all religious and ethnic components in shaping the future of a democratic Syria.
