Leader and revolutionary Zelal Zagros, real name Ferial Suleiman Khaled, grew up in the city of Hasaka in 1975 of a patriotic family, and has a great legacy of struggle.

After spreading thought of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement throughout Kurdistan and Rojava in particular, as a result of the struggle led by the leader Abdullah Ocalan in Syria and Lebanon. Ferial's family learned about the movement  struggle, and in 1993 she joined the ranks of the movement, fully aware that the movement represents the real struggle for the freedom of the Kurdish people.

On August 15, 1995, Ferial Khaled headed to the mountains of free Kurdistan, and fought in unique struggle there, for the freedom of the Kurdish people, and she developed its struggle by delving deeper into the thought and philosophy of the leader Abdullah Ocalan and the struggle for women’s freedom.

She spent 15 years of struggle in the mountains of free Kurdistan, then she went to Armenia, in order to introduce the Kurdish issue, and she was able to highlight the leadership and revolutionary character of the Kurdish woman there for 8 consecutive years, and after breaking out the spark of the July 19 revolution, she headed to Roj Ava in order to impart its struggle and revolutionary experience to all the people of the region, so she started from the popular base by contributing to the formation of communes and councils in the Tirbespiye district, in addition to consolidating relations between the Kurds, Arabs and Syriac components of the region, and in a short period of time she was able to complete its work with great calm and success.

After the launch of the campaign to liberate the city of Manbij from ISIS mercenaries in 2016, Zelal insisted on going to the city of Manbij in order to organize the people of the region there, because she was fully aware that the foundation of building any society begins with building the individual and society in the right ways ccording to the philosophy of the democratic nation.

All the villages of Manbij bear witness to Zelal’s struggle, starting from the Al-Asaliyya line to the Al-Arima line in the city center. One of the most important reasons for Zelal’s move to Manbij was to organize women according to the foundations of the liberation struggle.

She is one of the activists who contributed to eliminating central thought, and contributed to involving everyone in decision-making. One of her most important qualities that appeared in Manbij is the involvement of the general public in decision-making, and everyone bearing the responsibility of building a free society.

After Manbij, Zalal headed to continue the struggle in Deir ez-Zor in 2018, with the beginning of the liberation of parts of the areas occupied by ISIS there. She fought there despite all the hardships and threats. She never yielded to pressure. She established in Deir ez-Zor the concept of brotherhood of peoples, and struggle. National for Liberation.

Zulal, after a steady and balanced struggle, headed to the Syrian capital, Damascus, in order to organize the ranks of the Kurdish people there and communicate with the women’s movements there. She took upon herself, as one of her main tasks, the awareness of Arab women and all women living in Syria.

Zelal realized that liberating Kurdistan from tyrants begins with liberating women, so she went to southern Kurdistan, especially the city of Kirkuk, in order to organize the ranks of women and introduce them to the women’s struggle and the importance of organizing their ranks.

Until noon on the fifth day of January 18, Zelal was fighting for the cause of free women and the people of Mesopotamia. The hand of treachery assassinated her on the afternoon of the same day in the city of Kirkuk.
