March 8 Events scheduled in six cities

In a statement delivered at the Martyrs of March 12 Stadium in Qamishlo, and read by Kongra Star spokesperson in Qamishlo, Reyhan Temo, the organization outlined its plans for March 8.

The statement said that under the slogan, “With the philosophy of Woman, Life, Freedom, we protect the gains of the Women’s Revolution,” the events will be organized. It began by commemorating the spirits and dreams of the symbols of resistance of this era martyrs Deniz Jiya, Faraşîn, Rojbîn, and all martyrs and reaffirmed their commitment to following the path of Sakine, Arin, Avesta, Salha, Jiyan, and Zeynep. The statement also extended March 8 greetings to leader Abdullah Ocalan and to all women and working people.

It emphasized that March 8 is not merely a day of celebration, but a day to intensify struggle, uprising, organization, and resistance against all authoritarian mentalities hostile to the identity of free women.

The statement noted that women have led society toward freedom for decades through great sacrifices and heavy costs, contributing significantly to peace and democracy. However, it said the current system, with its brutality that contradicts human standards and ethics, represents the mentality and approach of ISIS, attacking women’s role, mission, identity, culture, and existence, and seeking to break their will by targeting figures such as the martyr Deniz and by violating the dignity of Kurdish women fighters who defended their people and free women in their youth.

It added that, in the spirit of the Women’s Revolution and with strong faith in achieving peace and democracy, women will continue their struggle to thwart the war of annihilation against the Kurdish people. They will not relinquish the achievements of their revolution and will safeguard the dreams, hopes, and faith of women around the world who believe in the “Woman, Life, Freedom” revolution.

The statement affirmed that women will remain at the forefront of resistance against anyone who seeks to kill women and society, and that they will protect the land, language, identity, culture, and dignity in order to build a free and equal life.

Kongra Star also revealed its program of activities across Amuda, Qamishlo, Tirbespiyê, Jal Agha, Girkê Legê, and Derik:

March 1: Decorating cities, streets, and neighborhoods by women, and weaving a 100-meter scarf. Artistic events will be held at the Mohammad Sheikho Center in Qamishlo, led by the Hilala Zêrîn Women’s Culture Movement, in support of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ).

March 2: A women’s meeting in Tirbespiyê; seminars and film screenings in Qamishlo organized by the Young Women’s Union; and the hanging of hand-painted banners by young women in Jal Agha.

March 3: Seminars and visits organized in most cities.

March 4: A women’s meeting in Amuda; a visit to Jinwar village by the Young Women’s Union and Kongra Star; awareness seminars in Qamishlo; nighttime visits to protection points; and the release of balloons bearing the slogan “Woman, Life, Freedom” with children.

March 5: A torchlight march in Derik and a film screening by the Young Women’s Union; distribution of flowers to working women in Karki Laki; a meeting in Tirbespiyê; a torchlight march in Qamishlo; and seminars in Amuda.

March 6: An event organized by the Young Women’s Union in Derik, along with releasing balloons with children.

March 7: Candlelight vigils at all martyrs’ shrines; flower distribution to women in Jal Agha; a torchlight march in Girkê Legê,; a public statement and braid-weaving activity in Amuda.

March 8: Two celebrations to be held in Qamishlo and Derik.

At the conclusion of the statement, women braided a 100-meter plait from spring-colored fabrics to commemorate the crime of cutting the braid of a Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) fighter. The braid will be hung the following day.
