Macron urges al-Sharaa to prevent violence in Syria

French President Emmanuel Macron, during a call with the head of Syria's transitional government, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, emphasized the need to avoid repeating violence and protect civilians in Syria.

Following the call, Macron stated: "The recent violent acts in Syria remind us of the extreme fragility of the transitional phase. Civilians must be protected, and it is essential to prevent the recurrence of violence and hold those responsible for these acts accountable."

He added: "The ceasefire in Suwayda is a positive sign. Now, calm dialogue must pave the way for achieving the goal of unifying Syria while respecting the rights of all its citizens."

Macron noted that "prosecutions are expected based on the report submitted by the independent committee regarding the violence on the coast."

He continued: "I discussed with the Syrian president the urgent need to find a political solution with local parties within a national framework for governance and security. It is also essential that negotiations between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian authorities proceed in good faith. The trilateral discussions have allowed us to identify the next steps."
