A report released on Monday by the Mine Action Review revealed that the number of victims of landmines and unexploded ordnance rose in 2024 to over 6,000 killed and injured, the highest level since 2020, in the result of the escalating conflicts in Syria and Myanmar, and the renewed consideration by some European countries of withdrawing from the Mine Ban Treaty.

The report documented 1,945 deaths and 4,325 injuries, with over 90 percent of the victims being civilians, including a high proportion of women and children.
