Kurdish Red Crescent continues providing aid to flood affected residents

Today, the emergency team of the Kurdish Red Crescent, in coordination with Hasakah Municipality, successfully rescued three families who had been trapped by floods that swept through the Meredian neighborhood near the Khabur River. Kurdish Red Crescent teams, with support from the Kurdistan Red Crescent, also distributed aid to 19 homes affected by flooding in the Hilaliya neighborhood of Qamishlo, according to the organization’s official website.

The assistance included a food basket for each family, in addition to a symbolic cash amount, in an effort to alleviate the impact of the damage and support residents during these difficult conditions.

The Red Crescent teams affirmed their full readiness to respond to any emergency, noting that rescue operations are still ongoing to ensure the safety of residents and protect them from the consequences of the floods.

The region has been experiencing heavy rainfall since mid-March, leading to a rise in the water level of the Khabur River and causing floods and flash flooding in several neighborhoods in Hasakah, most notably Meredian, Al-Nashwa, Al-Layliyya, and Gweiran. Authorities have issued warnings to residents to stay away from the riverbanks.

Last night, Hasakah Governor Nour al-Din Ahmed, accompanied by several officials, conducted field tours of the affected areas and the banks of the Khabur River. He instructed the relevant teams to raise technical and administrative readiness to ensure the safety of residents, amid the continued rise in water levels and their reaching the riverbed.
