Kurdish protester against Iranian authorities sentenced to six years in prison

The Revolutionary Court in Tehran approved on Saturday the verdict issued by the Court of Appeal, sentencing Kurdish youth Rebwar Marawi (27) to six years in prison after he was arrested during protests against Iranian authorities this year.

According to a report by the human rights organization "HANA," the initial verdict imposed a 10-year prison sentence on Marawi, which was later reduced to a six-year term effective immediately.

HANA also emphasized that the detainee was deprived of even his most basic legal rights, such as communicating with his lawyer or contacting his family, or even receiving adequate defense counsel.

The statement said the case was conducted without adherence to fair trial standards, raising doubts over the legitimacy of the verdict and clearly indicating Iran’s violation of its international human rights obligations.

The young man Marawei hails from the village of Maraw in Kamyaran City, Eastern Kurdistan, but resides in Tehran. He was arrested by security forces on January 9, 2026, and subsequently released on bail pending completion of his trial proceedings.
