Kurdish parties condemn obstruction of Serê Kaniyê return

A group of Kurdish political forces and parties in Rojava issued a written statement today, stressing that the return of displaced people from Serê Kaniyê is no longer merely a humanitarian demand, but a test of any serious efforts to achieve stability and civil peace. They noted that the right to return to one’s home and property is guaranteed under international law and humanitarian principles.

The groups accused armed factions in Serê Kaniyê of intimidating and assaulting returning Kurdish families and continuing to seize their properties, saying that such practices aim to obstruct their return and entrench a new demographic reality in the area.

They held the Syrian transitional government responsible for protecting returnees and their properties and for holding those involved in the attacks and seizure of property accountable. They also called on the United Nations and international human rights organizations to document the violations and exert pressure to ensure a safe, dignified return backed by legal and humanitarian guarantees.
