The Kremlin confirmed today, Saturday, that reaching a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine is still a distant goal, despite U.S. efforts to expedite negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.

The Kremlin confirmed today, Saturday, that reaching a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine remains elusive, despite U.S. efforts to expedite negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.

The Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in statements to Russian state television that the United States "is rushing to reach an agreement," pointing out that the complexities of the Ukrainian issue make reaching a comprehensive settlement difficult at the moment.

The statements came after Russia and Ukraine announced yesterday, Friday, their agreement to a temporary ceasefire for three days mediated by the United States, starting today and lasting until May 11.

U.S. President Donald Trump had expressed his hope to extend the truce and turn it into a first step toward ending the war that has been ongoing for more than four years.

Washington continues its diplomatic efforts to push both sides toward a political settlement, amidst ongoing military confrontations and field tensions on several fronts.
