HASAKA

Kongra Star issued a joint statement in the cities of Hasaka, al-Hol, Tal Brak, and al-Darbasiyah in the Jazira Canton regarding the murder of women. In Hasaka, the statement was read in Reading Park by Kongra Star administrator Media Ali, with the participation of dozens of women from the Kongra and representatives of civil institutions.

In al-Hol, the statement was read by Kongra Star member Samaher Omeir in front of the city council building, in the presence of a large group of women.

In Tal Brak, member Simav Ata read the statement in front of the civil council building, attended by many women from the city and institutional members.

In al-Darbasiyah, the statement was read in front of the Kongra Star's building by administrator Fatima Kalash, in the presence of representatives from women's councils and institutions.

In al-Shaddadi, the statement was read by Fatima Al-Wadi, a member of the social committee in Kongra Star, in front of the organization’s building, with a large turnout of women.

The statement strongly rejected the deliberate and random killings targeting women and girls, affirming that such crimes are not just attacks on individuals but direct assaults on women's historical struggle and their social achievements.

The statement said: “Killing a woman is the killing of life, the killing of her struggle, and the killing of her accomplishments; because a woman is the source of free life, and no society can be free without the freedom of women.”

Kongra Star expressed surprise at the silence and societal indifference towards these crimes, which are often committed under the guise of outdated legal texts or tribal customs and traditions, amid a disturbing rise in what the statement called “shootings,” which have recently claimed the lives of several women.

Call for responsibility

The statement called for the issue of femicide to be transformed from a private matter into a public social responsibility, requiring a collective stand from all parties, institutions, and human rights organizations.

Kongra Star renewed its “clear and explicit” commitment to supporting women, affirming the continuation of efforts by all possible means to impose deterrent punishments on perpetrators, with the ultimate goal of ending femicide completely.

The statement concluded with the slogan:

“Yes to ending the cycle of violence and killing against women... Let the perpetrators be held accountable.

Woman, Life, Freedom... No to killing women.”
