Kobani Administration meets with released prisoners

The Kobani administration held a meeting today with 22 prisoners held by the Interim Government who were released in three separate prisoner exchanges. The meeting, held in Roni War Park in Kobani, aimed to follow up on their situation after their release, assess their most pressing needs, and explore ways to provide them with necessary support.

During the meeting, Farhan Haji Issa, Co-Chair of the Kobani Administration, stated: "According to the standards and laws of war, prisoners should not be subjected to physical or psychological torture. However, we are proud of you today because you are among us. We hope that your other comrades will also be released and return to their families. Your resilience and determination will be recorded in history and will be an important chapter in the struggle of our Kurdish people."

Speaking on behalf of the prisoners, Farhad Kobani said: “These people knew nothing of humanity, but we tried to teach them what humanity is. Because of their ignorance, a number of our comrades who were with us were martyred. We will continue the resistance until the end, and we will protect our prisoners, our people, and the gains of our martyrs. Whatever happens, we will not abandon our people and our comrades.”

The first phase of the prisoner exchange, according to the terms of the January 29 agreement, took place on March 10, 2026. It involved the release of 100 individuals held by the Syrian Interim Government in exchange for 100 individuals held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). This was the first step in implementing the agreement, and those released arrived in the city of Hasakah.

The second phase was carried out on March 19, 2026, and saw the release of 300 individuals held by the Syrian Interim Government in exchange for 300 individuals held by the SDF, as part of the ongoing implementation of the agreement.

In the third batch, which took place on April 11, 2026, an additional 400 people who were in the custody of the interim government were released, in exchange for the release of 91 people who were in the custody of the Syrian Democratic Forces, as part of completing the agreed-upon exchange phases.
