Kobani administration affirms its commitment and demands Damascus to lift siege

The Democratic Autonomous Administration of Kobani Canton issued a statement today regarding statements published in the media outlets of the Syrian Interim Government that contradict the text of the January 29 agreement, which was announced on January 30.

In its statement, the administration affirmed its commitment to the terms of the agreement signed on January 29 between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian Interim Government in Damascus, and noted that the first practical steps have been implemented in the Shuyukh district through the integration of the security forces in the area.

And added, "As part of addressing the problems of the residents and ensuring the return of displaced persons to their homes, a meeting was held between the Kobani administration and the Deputy Governor of Aleppo, in the presence of Kurdish and Arab dignitaries from the Kobani countryside. The meeting yielded positive results. During the meeting, the Deputy Governor of Aleppo, on behalf of the Governor, extended an official invitation to the Kobani administration to visit Aleppo to follow up on outstanding issues."

Continued, "Based on this invitation, a delegation from the Kobani administration and dignitaries traveled to Aleppo on February 5th, where they met with the Deputy Governor and the Commander of the Internal Security Forces in Aleppo Governorate. The meeting discussed several important issues related to the region, primarily the steps taken in the Shuyukh district and the procedures required in the Jalabiya district to guarantee the return of residents to the villages from which they were displaced."

The statement indicated that "the meeting addressed essential service issues, including water, electricity, and internet outages. However, the Kobani administration noted that no concrete steps have yet been taken by the government, particularly regarding the withdrawal of military forces from Jalabiya and the lifting of the siege on Kobani, despite the promises made during the meeting."

The administration stressed in its statement that "the statements subsequently published in the media do not contribute to resolving the issues and are inconsistent with the text of the agreement. Furthermore, referring to Kobani as a 'district' and insisting on using the name 'Ayn al-Arab' contradicts the facts and realities."

The administration concluded its statement by affirming its readiness to fulfill all its obligations to advance the agreement and called on the interim government in Damascus to complete the required steps, foremost among them the withdrawal of military forces from the villages within the administrative boundaries of the Kobani region, lifting the siege on the city, and facilitating efforts to provide basic services to its residents.
