KNK condemns attack on Peshmerga in Southern Kurdistan

The Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) condemned the attack that targeted Southern Kurdistan and led to the loss of the lives of six Peshmerga fighters, describing it as a brutal attack. It affirmed: “We, the Kurds, are not a party to this war, but unfortunately, since its beginning, our people and our land have been subjected to attack.”

The Executive Council of the KNK issued a written statement regarding the loss of the lives of six Peshmerga fighters from the Kurdistan Region.

Six Peshmerga fighters lost their lives and more than 45 others were injured in a missile attack that targeted the base of the former 80th Forces Division of the Peshmerga in the Sibelk area in Soran, Southern Kurdistan, yesterday Tuesday.

The statement said:

“Iran and armed groups loyal to it continue their attacks on the Kurdistan Region. In this context, the region was subjected to repeated attacks last night. As a result, Iran launched a missile attack at dawn today on Peshmerga forces in the Kurdistan Region. The attack took place near the borders of the city of Khalifa, affiliated with the Soran administration in Erbil province. The attack resulted in the martyrdom of six Peshmerga fighters and the injury of thirty others.”

“We, in the Kurdistan National Congress, strongly condemn this brutal attack and all those responsible for it. We pray for mercy for the martyrs, wish a speedy recovery to the wounded, and extend our deepest condolences to the families of the martyrs and to all the people of Kurdistan.

We, the Kurds, are not a party to this war, but unfortunately, since its beginning, our people and our land have been under attack. On this occasion, we once again call on the parties to the war not to drag their conflict into our land and to stop their attacks on it. We have the right to respond, and the Kurdish people will defend themselves. In addition, the Iraqi government must not remain silent in the face of these attacks, and it must stop the armed groups close to Iran and take the necessary measures against the Iranian attacks.

Although we are not a party to this war, our land and our people are being attacked. We Kurds must defend ourselves against these attacks, strengthen our defensive capabilities, and reinforce our unity. Defending Southern Kurdistan is defending Kurdistan as a whole. We will defend the achievements of Southern Kurdistan with all our strength.”
