"key to solving the Kurdish issue in Syria lies in unifying efforts"

Ramzi Sheikhmous, a member of the Central Committee of the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Party, affirmed that unifying the Kurdish factions is a popular demand and called for overcoming dependency, recalling some names that have harmed the Kurdish cause. He appealed to all parties and the Syrian people to gather around the dialogue table away from external interventions, especially Turkish ones, which he confirmed "do not serve the future of the new Syria."

Ramzi Sheikho, a member of the Central Committee of the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Party, congratulated the success of the Syrian people's revolution in overthrowing the Ba'ath Party's rule and ending the Assad family's reign, which lasted for more than half a century.

Sheikhmous noted that the Syrian Kurds were among the most affected groups who faced violations and injustices at the hands of nationalist regimes, especially the former regime, which began in the 1960s with the stripping of Kurds' civil rights after many were deprived of Syrian citizenship.

Sheikhmous pointed out that he has information indicating that among those stripped of citizenship in 1957 was the Chief of Staff of the Syrian Army, Tawfiq al-Nizam al-Din, due to the nationalist perspective of the ruling regime at that time, which led to the marginalization of the Kurds as a component in building the unified nation, a mistake that must be avoided in future Syria.

Turkish interventions in Syrian affairs are illegal.

While he condemned the Turkish occupation state's handling of the Syrian issue through its illegal interventions, which deepen the wounds of the Syrian people of all backgrounds, by attacking Kurdish areas and displacing them under the force of arms.

Sheikhmus, originally from the occupied city of Afrin, noted that every displaced Afrini dreamed of celebrating the moment the Ba'ath regime fell in the public squares of their occupied city. However, the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries displaced them once again from the villages of Shahba under the weight of the military machine, which committed massacres and revived the scenario of the extermination of the Kurds in Afrin during its occupation in 2018.

We must unite to overcome the mistakes made by Hassan Khairi.

In a speech addressed to the Kurdish people, he said: "All Kurdish parties and factions must embody a spirit of responsibility in this historical phase, setting aside differences and uniting to elevate the demands that concern the community and convey them to the relevant authorities."

Sheikhmus emphasized: "Failure to unite and the repetition of Hassan Khairi's mistakes of blind allegiance by some parties will cause the curse of history, which began with the signing of the Lausanne Agreement, to be repeated, and it will affect the future of the Kurds in the region. The best solution now is unity and active participation in building a homeland that encompasses all Syrians."

Who is Hasan Khairi?

Hassan Khairi Janjo was born in 1881 in a village in the Khawzat region of Dersim. And when the Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid opened tribal schools with the aim of governing all regions, Hasan Khairi was among the first people to study in these schools.

After finishing this school, he joined the Hamidiye Regiments (the cavalry regiment affiliated with the Siurk tribe) in the Siurk region of Rha in Northern Kurdistan. He also served at various levels in the army. In 1916, he resigned due to the massacres that occurred against the Alawites and Armenians in Azerbaijan.

In 1920, he went to Ankara as a member of parliament from Dersim. He is known as an opposition member of parliament. In the meantime, he had a relationship with Seyyid Riza and other leaders of the Dersim tribes. He criticized the parliament's silence regarding the Kocgiri massacre.

Hassan Khairy fell into the trap of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who represented the Kurdish people in the Treaty of Lausanne; because the European countries were not ready to sign the agreement without the Kurds' approval. Therefore, Hassan Khairy sent a letter to the Lausanne Directorate's office at Atatürk's request and announced the Kurds' approval to establish the new state of Turkey.

Atatürk also asked Hassan Khairi to wear Kurdish clothing and accompany him to the Turkish parliament, which led delegations from other countries and journalists to claim that the Turkish government accepted the identity, attire, language, and culture of the Kurdish nation.

In 1925, he was executed for his speech in Kurdish and wearing Kurdish clothing on the orders of Atatürk himself. And after bringing Hasan Khairi to the gallows, they asked him to give his last will, to which Hasan Khairi replied: "My will is that you place my grave on the road so that every Kurd passing by can spit on my grave."

The future Syria will be a unifier for all Syrians.

Sheikhmous hopes that the future Syria will preserve the fate of all components, peoples, and sects, including Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians, Circassians, Yazidis, Druze, and others, under the slogan "the homeland is spacious for all."

Hoping during his talk that the social contract or the new constitution of Syria would include the rights of the Kurdish people alongside all other peoples living in harmony, to overcome the mistakes made by the former collapsed regime, so that this would be the outcome the Kurdish people deserve AFTER their continuous struggle for centuries to obtain their rights.

At the end of his speech, Ramzi Sheikho, a member of the Central Committee of the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Party, called on all the Syrian people to gather around an inclusive dialogue table to agree on all points, away from external interventions, especially Turkish ones, which do not serve the future of the new Syria.
