KDP's statements indicate its actions

Journalist Suleyman Ahmed entered the regions of NE Syria through the Fish Khabur-Semalka crossing officially and legally, and then headed to the city of Aleppo, the place of residence of his family, who were forcibly displaced from the Janders district after the Turkish aggression against Afrin Canton on January 20, 2018, to console his family over the death of his father, Muhammed Ahmed, who passed away on February 18, 2023, and his brother, who died in September 2023.

In a previous statement to ANHA agency, the mother of journalist Suleyman Ahmed, Sultana Ahmed, confirmed that Suleyman went to Sulaymaniyah in southern Kurdistan for work, after they were displaced from the city of Afrin in 2018, to support his family. Her son came after the death of his father to alleviate the tragedy of his family, and he stayed for about a week in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, and then headed again to his workplace in southern Kurdistan.

While journalist Suleyman Ahmed was heading to southern Kurdistan, on October 25, to continue his work there, he was kidnapped at the Fish Khabur crossing by the Kurdistan Democratic Party authorities, and the authorities have not revealed his fate yet.

Yesterday, the Dohuk security forces affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party prepared, through a misleading statement, that the kidnapping of journalist Suleiman Ahmed: “has nothing to do with journalism and that he traveled for secret and illegal work on behalf of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party,” and threatened to punish the journalist on the basis of these false accusations.

In turn, Roj News Agency refuted the allegations of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and said: “We reject and condemn the accusations and misinformation by the Dohuk security forces affiliated with the KDP as a cowardly attempt against the freedom of the voice of journalist Suleyman Ahmed and all free journalists, and we reject the imprisonment of journalist Suleyman Ahmed on unjustified charges".

Several journalist and human rights unions and associations denounced the kidnapping of journalist Ahmed, including the European Organization Against Torture team in southern Kurdistan. and said: “In accordance with the executive laws, Kurdistan Regional Government officials must reveal the location and reasons for the arrest of journalist Suleyman Ahmed to his family".

In turn, the National Syndicate of Journalists in South Kurdistan explained that: “Attempts to silence journalists in Hawler and the border entrances that fall under its authority have taken up a wide area and are now threatening journalists there and tightening their grip on them".

The Kurdistan Democratic Party is striving to silence the mouths of free journalists, and its statements refute its actions, as journalist Suleyman Ahmed entered from the Fish Khabur border crossing, which is under the control of the Kurdistan Democratic Party legally, Suleyman can't return to southern Kurdistan legally once the deadline for his visit expires, according to the documents and papers he possesses.
