KDP obstructs return of 180 IDPs families to Şengal

Roj News Agency announced that 180 IDPs families from the areas of Dokri, Rambusi, Karzark, and Sakaniyya in the camps of southern Kurdistan want to return to their homes in Şengal, but the Kurdistan Democratic Party obstructed their efforts by exerting pressure on the Ministry of Migration and Displacement.

The director of the Sinuni district, Khedida Joki, told Roj News Agency that the IDPs families were supposed to return today (May 12, 2024), after the International Organization for Migration completed all necessary procedures, including providing legal papers and financial planning.

Joki explained that the Kurdistan Democratic Party prevented the departure of these families, claiming that the Minister of Immigration and Displacement filed a lawsuit in the Federal Court against the party.

This step comes at a time when Şengal is witnessing intense reconstruction efforts and the return of IDPs to their homes, which has sparked dissatisfaction among the IDPs and the families returning to Şengal.

One citizen, who preferred to remain anonymous to the same agency, expressed his dissatisfaction, saying: “We want to return to our homes, but we face many pressures. I completed all procedures related to my return with the IOM organization, but in the end the return process stopped.”
